PIONEERS OF 805 HIP HOP

There are few people that know about the history of 805 Hip Hop. There are few people that knew hip hop existed in the 805 back in the day. Well, it did and it was the freshest thing to hit the streets. Skating Plus was one of the settings for  several battles and clashes some in  the 805. When Club Nicholby’s was  Zenon West, Mogg's, and The Starlight Club was on hit.  When B-Boys wore Phat laces and carried cardboard and Boom Boxes like value packs. From Hueneme to Oxnard, Ventura, Santa Barbara to Filmore the scene was dope. What made the Hip Hop scene the way around the 80’s era when it began  were the people and the events that occurred.  The elements of Hip Hop; DJ’s, Emcee’s, B-Boys, and the artist. Throughout the county, these people will be recognized as Pioneers of 805 Hip Hop. They paved the path by their contributions to the culture by representing the way they knew how, as  805 individuals. This page is dedicated to those who did their thang and some still doing it. For  those who don’t know, now you know!

RIC ROCK (OXNARD) - This one's for the 805.Just Found out Rick Rock passed away in Las Vegas. Richard was one of the O.G. 805 battle DJ'S from the era of HT, J Scratch,Ron Briggs(Kid Cut) ect....He won the 1986 KMYX 106 FM DJ Battle ( I came in second).He DJ'd along side Dr. Dre at the Elks Lodge in Oxnard when the Wreckin Cru Performed There in 1985.He was also one of the first if not the first producers from the 805 to make beats..... in 1985.He rocked a TR 909 Drum machine and was sampling way before alot of muthafuckas new how to sample. His style was reminiscent of Mantronix.Richard and Yo Jay taught alot of cats how to make beats.Props where props are due....R.I.P

DJ GQ-7 (Gilbert Garcia now in Las Vegas) was HT's right hand man. If you know like I do, Gilbert was the person who setup and tore down many of performances for HT and was also an on air personality at K-MYX.

DJ Wizz (Cedric Adams now in Oregan) was part of the Music Masters (Owner-Xavier Murrietta) who put on the never forgotten show at the Elks club where Arabian Prince, Egyptian Lover and the World Class Wreckin Crew performed. I was there so if you remember, a fight broke out after Egyptian Lover performed and the Wrecking Crew had to come back for a second show. The Music Masters was also the home DJ crew for Rick Roc. I know first hand because I borrowed that TR 909 that you spoke about and created a few jams back then myself (Backyard Rangers can concur). I didn't know that he passed away. This was the first that I heard about it.

Mark Lucky & Wesley Woods used to DJ back in the day and the group was called Rythmatic Boogie (correction).

Jacqueline Lozano from Fillmore CA... was one of the baddest female breakdancers... she could do windmills, back spins,headspins, uplock, like no ones business... growing up in Fillmore and watching her do her thing as a young girl made you want to do the same thing. As a matter of fact she could do somethings some guys couldn't do..... she was def part of the Hip-Hop evolution here in Ventura County.
